The following diagram explains the bodies of authority within Catholic Education. Authority is invested in the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC), the National-Catholic Board of Education (N-CBE) and locally within the Gauteng-Catholic Board of Education (G-CBE)
THE CORE MISSION OF THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OFFICE IS TO PROVIDE SERVICES WHICH MEET THE NEEDS OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS IN GAUTENG.
The CSO follows the directives of the Gauteng-Catholic Board of Education in guiding our member schools to implement the Vision and Direction Statements of the Third National Catholic Schools Congress of 2019.
The Direction Statements illustrated above guide our schools to ensure that the following key elements underpin the spiritual, moral and academic life of the school.
In addition, the CSO works within the broader education sector as well:
- we Contribute to Catholic perspectives within the national educational debate
- we Co-operate with other bodies to promote quality education in South Africa
- we make Joint Representation with other educational bodies to the provincial education authorities and monitor National and Provincial legislation which affects Catholic Schools.

- Training in Child Safeguarding
- Networking with Bursars, Marketing Coordinators and School Counsellors
- Retreats and Days of Reflection for Teachers
- Leadership Courses for Staff and Students
Assistance specific for Religious Education Teachers
Religious Education is the core element of Catholic Education, and as such the CSO strives to meet the needs of our schools in living the Gospel values in all the aspects of teaching and learning. This includes the drawing up a Religious Education Policies, compiling the Religious Education Curriculum, planning Liturgical Celebrations, assessment in Religious Education plus other related aspects.
