What Makes us Special

La Salle College Discovery is a school shaped by a strong Lasallian heritage, where faith in God, care for others, and meaningful learning are part of everyday life. Inspired by St. John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers, the College believes that education should extend beyond textbooks, forming young people of character, compassion, and purpose. For six decades, the school has remained committed to guiding learners to discover their strengths while recognizing the dignity and worth of every individual.

The spirit of the College is reflected in its mission to “Be Kind,” a message lived out in the relationships among staff, learners, and families. Classrooms are spaces where curiosity is encouraged, effort is celebrated, and each child is supported to grow academically, socially, and spiritually. Guided by the IEB, students are equipped to think critically, solve problems confidently, and face the future with resilience and hope.

As a co-educational school offering a continuous journey from Grade R to Matric, La Salle embraces diversity and prepares learners for life in a changing world. Sport, culture, and service opportunities enrich this experience, fostering leadership, teamwork, empathy, and responsibility.

What truly makes La Salle College special is its people and its strong sense of community. Rooted in the legacy of De La Salle, the school nurtures responsible young adults who are prepared not only to succeed, but to live with purpose and make a meaningful difference wherever they go.

Our Past, Present and Future

La Salle College Discovery: A Legacy of Excellence, A Future of Purpose

Honouring Our Past
Founded in 1966 by the De La Salle Brothers, our school was built on a foundation of faith and a vision to provide a transformative Christian education. For nearly 60 years, we have remained anchored in the Lasallian tradition established by St. John Baptist de La Salle. We are honoured to have Br. Gabriel Griffin overseeing our Lasallian schools in South Africa, ensuring our rich heritage continues to shape a community where every child is seen, known, and loved.

Celebrating Our Present
Today, La Salle College Discovery is a thriving, co-educational independent school on the West Rand. Over the past decade, our school community has doubled in size—a testament to our learner-centred approach and robust academic offering. This growth has been supported by the quiet leadership of our Principal, Beverley Whittal, and Deputy Principal, Martin Jooste, alongside a team of deeply committed teachers. Together, they ensure that every child receives the care and guidance they deserve. To ensure our learners are globally competitive, we use IEB subject averages as our academic benchmark, ensuring our children are fully equipped to enter university and excel in higher education.
Shaping Our Future

As we celebrate our 60th anniversary in 2026, our commitment to innovation remains steadfast. We are evolving to meet the challenges of a changing society by integrating 21st-century skills with our core values of respect and service. Our future is one of continued growth and excellence, where we empower every learner to flourish through diverse sports, cultural activities, and a nurturing environment that prioritises our most important rule: “Be Kind.”

A word from our School Principal

The College’s ethos is guided by our global Lasallian heritage, prioritising the students’ best interests in all we do—nurturing them spiritually, academically, and emotionally to ensure they flourish as confident, well-rounded individuals.
