Our Past, Present and Future

  • St Benedict’s began in 1957, when Oblate priests established a Catholic boys’ school on Bedfordview land, laying the foundation for a tradition of faith‑rooted education.
  • The first school day was in 1958 with just 24 boys, and the early growth quickly saw the addition of a Preparatory School and expanding enrolment.
  • Over the decades the school expanded its facilities, houses, sport and cultural programmes, and academic offerings — becoming one of South Africa’s largest and most respected boys’ schools.
  • The shift to lay leadership in the 1980s marked a new chapter, strengthening governance and expanding opportunity.
  • St Benedict’s has maintained an extraordinary tradition of 100% matric pass rates for decades, with recent cohorts achieving record levels of distinctions and national recognition.
  • Our rowers have dominated at national level with over 31 consecutive South African championship titles, showing excellence beyond the classroom.
  • Recent facility developments like the Ephraim Mohlakane Basketball Courts reflect investment in growing sports and holistic development.
  • Today nearly 1300 boys thrive across Junior Prep, Prep and College, embodying our values, traditions and community spirit.
