What Makes us Special

St David’s Marist Inanda presently has over 1600 pupils across the two campuses and blessed with magnificent facilities to support the development and growth of the boys in our care. We are situated in both the heart of the thriving metropolis of Sandton, and the vibrant community of Alexandra.

The Marist values of Humility, Simplicity and Modesty, and the ethos upon which the school was founded, remain at the heart of all that we do. Our mission is to be “an African school preparing boys to take their place in society and to build South Africa as enquiring, well-balanced individuals aware of their social responsibilities to the wider community, and ready to respond with compassion and justice to the realities of society.”

  • The Pre-School section of the school is blessed with an extremely competent. dedicated group of teachers who are passionate about boys’ education, and who ensure that every day is an adventure for the Mini-Marist boys.
  • The Preparatory School focus is based upon the belief that academics represent just one aspect of our approach to education. We value the whole child, and undertake to provide for his physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and cultural development.
  • During the College years, our boys are exposed to numerous character and personal development opportunities, and they are expected to participate in the many sporting, cultural, service and leadership opportunities provided to them. College boys are a cohesive group, often referring to each other as ‘brothers’, emphasising their sense of family and unity.
  • Our Chaplain is actively involved in providing counsel and advice to boys, parents, and staff. All boys attend Holy Mass once a week. Daily prayers. regular retreats, and Religious Education are part of our curriculum.

Our Past, Present and Future

St David’s opened in 1941, by 1948 had its first matric class and by 1953, the boys were participating competitively in athletics, swimming, tennis, rugby, football and cricket.

In 2023, St David’s opened a satellite campus in Alexandra, to extend our Marist footprint in line with our vision and mission. This campus brings quality, Marist education to a community brimming with potential but lacking resources, and will grow year-on-year to accommodate around 250 boys from Grade 8 to Matric by 2027.

Our numerous Service Programmes aim to awaken learners’ consciences to the challenges that affect society and involve our learners in programmes that bring them into contact with situations of need. Service is aimed at encouraging Marist boys to live out the key values aspired to by Saint Marcellin Champagnat: Humility, Modesty, and Simplicity. Boys are actively involved in a broad spectrum of around 20 activities that benefit disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

Over the years, St David’s has built a reputation for excellent academic standards and work ethic. The College writes external examinations under the auspices of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). The School has maintained a consistent 100% pass rate, an excellent Bachelor Degree acceptance rate, and regularly has Matric boys placed within the IEB Top 1% of candidates.

Our weekly Boarding facility offers a ‘family away from family’ approach in an exceptionally comfortable setting with a highly favourable boarder to staff ratio. Boarding has become an established and valuable part of the St David’s offering.

A word from our School Principal

Daily, more than 1600 boys from Grade 000 to Grade 12 walk through our gates across two campuses to continue along their path of growth in a way that challenges them to be thought leaders and change makers. They are given the opportunity to try new things, to participate in a wide array of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, to achieve in areas of passion and talent, to have fun and to grow in their faith. Our boys go on to become men of character who take their rightful place in society in every sphere. We are proud of our alumni who in turn are rightfully proud of their school.

The development and growth surrounding St David’s mirrors our own on-going development of our campus, facilities and programmes which is intended to keep our boys engaged and involved and our education relevant and impactful.
– Mike Thiel, Executive Headmaster
